Range of Mechanical Seals
Mechanical Seals for Chemical Industry
The chemical industry is characterized by a multitude of processes, in which corrosive, toxic and explosive media are pumped, mixed, transported and stored. Very diverse types of substances, e.g. fertilizers, plastic materials, fibres, preservatives, foamed plastic, foils a.o. are manufactured from these preproducts. In all steps of the process, pumps and agitators, equipped with mechanical seals for the sealing of shafts, are employed to a great extent. CHETRA® takes these various application requirements into account beginning with the basic concept of a mechanical seal and the choice of suitable accessories. A heightened environmental awareness and corresponding stipulations such as TA-Luft (Clean Air Act), ATEX (ex-protection), a.o., combined with economic efficiency, are the prerequisites for the planning, designing and manufacturing of every CHETRA® mechanical seal.

Mechanical Seals for Food Processing Industry
In the food processing industry mechanical seals form an essential part of various installations. They are among the important components in centrifugal and eccentric screw pumps, agitators, mills, kneaders and homogenizers. In the application area of the food processing industry, the resp. mechanical seal must meet especially high requirements placed on hygiene and cleanness. They are used in dairy pumps, in breweries, in the production of margarine and butter, chocolate and juice and even in highly automated production units for the most diverse types of food. In connection with this, the sterilisability of all surfaces is of utmost importance. Not only the mechanical seals used but also a part of the mechanical seal supply systems must completely fulfill CIP, SIP and GMP requirements to ensure efficient cleaning and the ability to sterilize without disassembly of the mechanical seal or its parts.

Mechanical Seals for Oil & Gas Industry
In the oil & gas industry – with the areas of on-shore and off-shore – operating under extreme conditions places the highest demands on reliability and longevity of equipment components. Central units such as crude oil recovery and pipeline pumps, multiphase pumps, water injection and MOL pumps require mechanical seals that display high abrasive resistance, safety reserves and fail-safe characteristics as a result of their design and the materials that they employ. As early as the basic concept stage of the mechanical seal CHETRA® takes account of the sealing technology requirements presented by high pressure (>100 bar), high speed, contaminated/mixed media such as crude oil/gas, sand/water mixes, additional demands caused by sea water and the sometimes unmanned platforms encountered in off-shore operations.

Mechanical Seals for Pulp and Paper Industry
The renewable resource "wood" is used for obtaining the basic material cellulose (pulp) for paper manufacture, in which the environmentally-friendly addition of wastepaper also plays a big part. The processing in the individual stations, such as the processing of raw materials, stock preparation plant, digestery, bleachery and paper finishing, is carried out by chemical, thermal and mechanical procedures. A substantial number of centrifugal pumps and, to a certain extent, positive-displacement pumps, agitators, refiners and sorters are engaged in this. The basic material “cellulose” as well as the chemical auxiliary agents put high demands on the seal technology of the mechanical seal used – because the media are abrasive, viscous, in part toxic and at high temperatures. A heightened environmental awareness and appropriate stipulations such as TA-Luft (Clean Air Act), ATEX a.o., combined with economic efficiency, are the prerequisites for the planning, designing and manufacturing of every CHETRA® mechanical seal.

Mechanical Seals for Pharmaceutical Industry
In the pharmaceutical industry, as well as in the related area of diagnosis, medicine and cosmetics are produced in solid, liquid and paste-like form by industrial production methods. For this, many aggregates such as agitators, mixers, dryers, reactors and fermentors are used, for which mechanical seals must fulfill special prerequisites: Among other things, they must be free of chemical and biological contamination, they must protect the vacuum pressurized aggregates from material foreign to the product and they must ensure that no material from the vessel under excess pressure will leak out. Factors such as the ability to clean (CIP) and sterilize (SIP) the installations without disassembly are very important. CHETRA® takes economic efficiency and observance of statutory conditions as well as the requirements of environmental protection into consideration beginning with the basic concept of a seal and the choice of suitable accessories.

Mechanical Seals for Power Stations Industry
Whether in power stations, in thermal power generation, in the production of energy from renewable raw materials and in ORC plants: The industry-specific requirements in power station operation call for a highly demanding technology in the mechanical seals used. Independent of application – whether in fast-running turbo machines and feed pumps, boiler feed pumps, circulating and condensate pumps, hot water pumps, large tubular type and cooling water pumps, hydraulic turbines (Kaplan/Francis water turbines) or steam turbinesstrict prerequisites for functional safety of these aggregates are valid. The combination of high pressures and temperatures, running speeds of up to 50 m/s, different media and water conditions and additives require high-quality mechanical seal technology. Strict environmental protection requirements round out this product profile.

Mechanical Seals for Water Works, Wastewater and Sewage Treatment Plant
Day after day we produce an abundance of wastewater. It comes from industrial enterprises and private households and is contaminated with dirt, solid matter as well as chemical products. Before being reintroduced into the natural circuit, it must be thoroughly reprocessed in wastewater or sewage treatment plants. A great many pumps, agitators and aerators etc. are used in this process. They fulfill the varying tasks of separation, filtration and sewage purification. In many stages of these processes, mechanical seals are employed. These seals must meet the high demands set, particularly with regard to corrosion resistance and suitability for solid matter. The demands placed on mechanical seals used in the closed circuit purification of industrially produced wastewater are also very exacting. The water is, dependent upon its utilization, polluted with the most diverse types of material. Rigorous demands must also be met concerning the drinking water supply. The relevant regulations must be observed in the interest of the consumer. Various types of pumps are employed in the processing of clean drinking water, a.o. doubly supported, multiple-stage pumps and vacuum pumps, which are frequently sealed with single-acting mechanical seals. For higher vacuum, however, mostly double-acting mechanical seals are used.
